Elev 1962-1978 hos bl.a. Niels Guttormsen og Kasper Heiberg, samt på Kunstakademiets Billedhuggerskole, København, 1981. Erland Knudssøn Madsen begyndte sin kunstnerkarriere som maler, men har gennem de seneste årtier arbejdet som billedhugger, fortrinsvist i sten og træ, som ofte bemales. Hans inspiration er nok naturen, men i sin abstraktion trækker han ligeså meget på indre billeder og på filosofisk og mytisk stof.
Erland Knudssøn Madsen blev medlem af Vrå-udstillingen i 1990, og hans kunst kan opleves på Vendsyssel Kunstmuseum og i Kunstbygningen i Vrå, ligesom han har skabt værker til offentlige pladser i en række byer landet over.

Student of, among others, Niels Guttormsen and Kasper Heiberg 1962-1978, as well as the Sculpture School of the Art, Copenhagen 1981. Erland Knudssøn Madsen started his art career as a painter, but has in the past decades worked as a sculptor, primarily in stone and wood, which is often painted. His main inspiration seems to be nature, but in his abstraction, he is just as influenced by his imagination and by philosofical and mystical sources.
Erland Knudssøn Madsen became a member of the Vrå exhibition in 1990, and his art may be experienced at the Vendsyssel Art Museum, and Kunstbygningen in Vrå. He has also created decorative works for the public in many cities around Denmark.
